Summer Edition                                                                                                              July 2008________

We Love a PARADE….

Our volunteers love a parade --- especially this year’s edition! Congratulations to the participants who took home the V.F.W. plaque!! You are clear winners! Our thanks to Pat Cooper, our parade chair (this year was the charm for Pat). Behind the scenes were Bob Grobsmith, Linda Visesky, Carol Cossock who decorated the float. Ann Ciccarelli designed our signs. Lois Cogovan helped with the lettering. Joe Menzel drove a happy crowd up the West Hill. Fred Cossick let us in the Canal Song as we marched proudly up Main Street.

A great picnic followed. Everyone brought wonderful treats. The smell of hot dogs and hamburgs cooked by Carl Kraus and Dave Cooper permeated the air. The summer season is off to a good start!

SCHOOL TOURS ENJOYED…

We have just finished a wonderful season of school tours. The Education Committee prepared packets for visiting classes. It included information about their visit to our park, the canal, activity sheets and reference materials. We always receive nice letters from students and very positive comments from teachers. We are pleased with the diversity of groups that come. One group came as far as Groton.

We especially thank the boat captains for working so well together. We had our share of all kinds of weather. We brought out the Red Cross blankets and umbrellas during the first couple of weeks.

Those deserving a “pat on the back” are: Ruby Adams, Nadine Anagnost, Marge Becraft, Liz and Dave Beebe, Paul Bertan, Ann Ciccarelli, Lois Cogovan, Fred and Carol Cossick, Janet Darrow, Nancy Greene, Paul Hurst, Jean and Laurie Kaley, Del Klein, Marie Miczan, Hank Miller, Dolly and Craig Nunneker, Aileen Reynolds, Ralph Sims, Vicki Vaccaro, Louise Wagner, Linda Visnesky, Ann Zawacki, Ann McDonell, Tom Williams, and Dodi Paulmbo.

Always a crowd pleaser is the Lock Demonstration. We thank Nadine for working with us. We also appreciate Fenton Hanchett’s helping hand.
